1959 Ford Galaxie Fairlane 500
352 V8, FRESH CARBURETOR, RECENTLY BUFFED, NICE INTERIOR, AFFORDABLE CRUISER!
When was the last time you saw one of these? The first generation Ford Galaxie is an uncommon sight these days, especially in any form other than Sunliner or Skyliner. This first run of Galaxies was pretty clearly competing with Chevrolet designs of the day, and did a bang-up job! These cars have a very unique look that made them easy to recognize as Fords anywhere they went, and that remains the same today.
This coupe Galaxie is what we could call a driver-quality car. It isn't show quality, but would be plenty of fun being used as a weekend cruiser or fun casual show/parade vehicle. The exterior' black cherry paint color really sets off the body lines. The paint looks almost black inside, but outdoors it is a gorgeous black cherry shade. While it is an older paint job, it has held up well over the years and cleaned up really well! Plus the turbine-style tail lights look killer against the dark color. Upon closer inspection, you will see some bubbling just above the drip rails, but for the most part, the body is extremely solid. The addition of a faux continental kit on the back bumper and faux lake pipes give this Galaxie that extra little touch to complete the ensemble.
The interior has been reupholstered and mostly restored at some point in the past. Because it has been so well preserved, it is hard to tell how long ago the work was done, but it looks almost new. Items such as door handles, the steering wheel, and other touch areas show minor wear, but overall the interior is in excellent condition. A modern radio has been fitted to a custom center console complete with cup holders and speakers. Additionally, speakers mounted on the package tray complete the sound. If you look closely, you'll notice that the carpet and the darker seat inserts have been made to match the exterior paint color.
Under the hood (which opens reverse of the usual way) sits a Ford 352 V8. The carburetor has been professionally rebuilt as of March 2019 and this puppy fires right up! This car runs great, and while it is hard to tell how long ago the engine was last gone through, it really runs smoothly. The 352 is plenty of cruising power for a car this size, and the dual exhaust sounds great with glasspack mufflers installed. This Ford is just a big old lead sled looking for a new cruising commander!
You don't see many of these in any configuration, and it seems like even less that isn't a convertible. Whether you're after an affordable, turn-key weekend cruiser or something unique to take to the next level, this Galaxie Fairlane 500 is worthy of consideration!
