FULLY RESTORED, SS454 CLONE, 454 V8, 4-SPD MANUAL, ORIGINAL BUILD SHEET!
If you are in the market for something a bit more aggressive it doesn't get much better than a big block '70 Chevelle. Chevrolet styling grew more impressive across the board with each year in the 1960s, and in 1970 it introduced one of the classic designs of the muscle-car era in the redesigned Chevelle. The new model featured more curvaceous surfaces, an edgier front-end treatment with recessed quad headlights and maintaining the fastback roof line. For many of the Chevelle faithful, its a constant debate between the '67 and the '70 as to which is the most desirable. Take a look at this blue on blue '70 SS clone and decide for yourself!
This '70 Chevelle was restored 12 years ago with the sole purpose of being a show car, but not a trailer queen. The current owner was very clear that he didn't want a trailer queen. He wanted a vehicle that he planned on putting on the road and driving regularly while attending shows in his free time. That's why he chose the classic 454 big block V8 rather than a modern power plant! The block is a 1983 454 2 bolt main with a casting number of 14015445. It has been bored .060 over, decked, and put back together with Keith Black pistons. The engine fires up easily and sounds just like you'd expect! The 4-speed manual transmission is the perfect choice to pair with a big block, and it shifts through the gears exactly the way you expect a GM transmission of the era to. Nothing feels quite the same as rowing gears in a big block, 4-speed Chevelle!
The exterior is clean and straight, as you can see! During the restoration, the body was fully soda blasted. Both quarter panels have been replaced along with the outer wheel houses and trunk pans, as well as various other smaller patches. The rear fender wells are coated in LINE-X bedliner. The correct 4-speed shifter hump was welded into the floor pan. Lastly, the exterior was painted in PPG Deltron Astro Metallic blue. This is a quality base/clear paint job, and not a “scuff and shoot” style bargain basement respray. All of the glass is new from Auto City Classic, completing the look of a fully restored car.
The underside is just as nice as the topside. The frame was completely disassembled and sand blasted during the restoration, and painted with Chassis Saver GM Restoration paint. All other major chassis components received the same treatment as the frame.
The interior is in excellent overall condition and has clearly been well-maintained since the restoration was completed in 2007. It was a complete PUI interior kit, including all weatherstripping. All new everything was installed at the time of restoration. Plus, nothing matches a blue exterior better than a blue interior! While the build sheet confirms that this is NOT an authentic SS454 car, the correct SS badging is in place and helps this car look the part of what's under the hood.
